"Put a candle in the window, cause I feel Ive got to move.

Though Im going, going, Ill be coming home soon,

long as I can see the light.

Pack my bag and lets get movin, cause Im bound to drift a while.

When Im gone, gone, you dont have to worry long,

long as I can see the light.

Guess Ive got that old travlin bone, cause this feelin wont leave me alone.

But I wont, wont be losin my way, no, no

long as I can see the light.

Yeah! yeah! yeah! oh, yeah!

Put a candle in the window, cause I feel Ive got to move.

Though Im going, going, Ill be coming home soon,

Long as I can see the light.

Long as I can see the light.

Long as I can see the light.

Long as I can see the light.

Long as I can see the light."

I got my invitation to serve from the Peace Corps today. It came to the house in SCS so I had my mother open it over the phone.

The country:

Benin, it is in West Africa. Formerly French West Africa.

The day I have to be there:

July 18.

Soon, very soon.

We can be sentimental now, I have officially graduated. Horrah!

And what may be more amusing is I think these life-long education credits I am taking this semester will affect my GPA. It seems I will never stop screwing up my GPA.

I should be moving up to Lansing in the next few days, FYI. I have my place I am just gradually moving my stuff up there.

The note I left on my friend's counter:

"So you know, you made a complete ass of yourself."

But on the plus side, I got a lot of writing done. Just not in my LJ. Really, this is not the way to keep up with me, I update facebook more often than this. But man I am an awesome friend, FYI.

Well, I got my call back from the regional director of the Peace Corps, and it looks like I am either going to Africa in September (the most likely event) or Central/Eastern Europe in June (not bloody likely). Africa is my first choice and I hope it is a French-speaking country, but unless I am a carrier of some horrid disease, or become embroiled in a legal mess, I am in!

Hot shit.

In other news, the 2006 midterms are comming up this November, so I think we had better get working on the campaign for the Michigan 12th District's future State Congressman: Edmund Tech. Let's start getting out there and rocking the vote!

So it has been two months since I updated, how about that one.

What I am doing:

Going up to MSU twice a week for class.

Finding a part-time job up there. Or two.

Still fencing when I am up there (tuesdays and thursdays)

What I am planning on doing:

Getting a full time job in Lansing

Moving up to Lansing by Valentine's Day

Joining the Peace Corps

Currently I am in SCS, generally in good health. I'd update more but I don't know what to say. IM me, I try to be on around eleven pm when I am not going to be up at school. Toodles

"I'll be happy to hold the door open on their way out and slam it after they go." ~Congressman John Dingell 15th Michigan District on hearing that some "Democrats" would leave the party if there was integration.

December 13th is the FIFTITH anniversary in Congress. I never really realized how good of a speaker vice-president Cheney is, esp. compaired to his boss. Former-president Clinton was charming as always, and Governor Granholm and Senator Levin won my vote again with their speach.

It read the following:

"Dear everyone at Accapaloza:

I sang a capella at fencing this afternoon, on my way back from fencing, and in the shower, it isn't that impressive. Now get the fuck out of my parking lot.

Thanks"

So I was in the caf, and as I was in line for food, that song "You and me and all other People" came on the air and about five people just started singing it in those overly emotive voices. I just imagine their concerts being exactly the same way, except there are 20,000 people singing in that same trite, dull fake voice. I wanted to vomit.

"June 2, 1954

Mr Dwight D. Eisenhower, President of the United States,

Dear Sir,

I would like to congratulate you on your success on passing the law about negros going to public schools. I would like to know if there is any difference between the white race and the negro race, and why some parents disagree with having white and negro children go to school together.

Respecfully,

Sarah Jane Godlin, age 10

Burbank CA."

You know what makes me happy when I drive back from the cottage? Scanning thru the radio stations several times and noticing that there are fewer and fewer country stations the closer I get to Lansing.

I stopped twice on the way back from Mackinaw, and both times "Don't Take the Girl" was playing. That song really personifies everything I dislike in country.

I find it ironic that in Mackinaw, 90.5, the NPR station here is a Christian radio station. I heard an interesting show about Detrich who was deciding if he was first a German or a Christian.

Finally, I listened to a few Christian Rock stations on the way back and was terribly amused by how out of place large words sound in those songs. I don't think those singers would use 3-4 sylable words that aren't in the Bible. "Redemption" really sounds out of place comming from voices like that. Come to think of it, "halleluja" does too.

Does thinking like this make me a bad person?

Yesterday, someone said to me "So you're Canadian?"

I grinned like an idiot, it was the happiest day of my life.

I <3 Canadians.

Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis was just on NPR, on one of my not-so-favorite recordings by the London Philharmonic. The DJ said this of the song:

"It is such a wonderful peice because Vaughan Williams creates a quartet within the orchestra."

I couldn't have said it better myself.

"IF I HEAR HURRICAINE KATRINA REFERRED TO AS 'OUR TSUINAMI' ONE MORE TIME I SWEAR TO GOD I AM GOING TO BUY A PLANE AND DUMP MORE WATER ON THE CITY DOWN THERE." ~Jake

If I ever hear it, I am going to launch a tsuinami on the one who says it. I, personally have very little sympathy for hurricane victims. For all the years I have known about hurricanes, I have known New Orleans is ripe to be sunk. I feel sorry for the people who don't have the means to leave perminantly, but as Jake said, you had plenty of warning for this one. You want to know why the world doesn't care about our hurricane? BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS GOING ON. PEOPLE ARE DIEING ELSEWHERE IN LARGER NUMBERS AND WE HAVE NEVER GIVEN A SHIT. I saw a headline in the State News that lamented because The Saints don't have a place to play. Boo hoo hoo! Do you want to know how to avoid loss due to hurricanes? DON'T LIVE IN THE SOUTH!

It was the String Symphony #8 by Felix Mendohlson. It was one of his early works, so it fits the period.
