On Saturday I was invited to Mole (where there is one of the only, if not the only, swimming pool north of Kumasi) on a swimming expedition with the kids from the Damongo orphanage. My job was to make sure the kids, none of whom know how to swim, didn't sink. So I stood in a pool for about 5 hours with at least 2 to 6 kids hanging on me at all times. The kids are all very well behaved and I think we all had a fun time. Here is one of the kids decked out in his swim gear. It seems there weren't quite enough arm-floats to go around - fortunately everyone remained buoyant.

None of the children knew how to swim; however, that didn't keep a brave few from belly flopping into the pool.

"Sister, sister, take my picture!" Volunteers filter in and out of the orphanage for a few weeks or months at a time; however, they seem to all be women. The kids are used to calling the younger ones sister and assume that any white person in their 20's or 30's must be a sister, so by default, I too was a sister for the day.

Featured here is a warthog at Mole National Park. He seems to hang around the motel area. So far it's the only wildlife I've seen. The good news is that the staff has gotten to know me and they assure me that I am an honorary Ghanaian and can pay the Ghanaian rates.
